A note for visitors to this web page who intend to apply for a permit, please be aware that our forests are all located in Otago, (within 80 km of Dunedin)
Permits are issued free of charge, but please allow at least a week for your permit application to be processed.
Note that permits may be cancelled in times of high fire danger or for operational requirements. For your safety, do not enter the forests during strong winds!
GENERAL FOREST ACCESS PERMITS
There are a range of recreational and educational opportunities available for visitors to our forests outside business hours, but a permit is required prior to entry (apart from general recreational access to Ross Creek and Flagstaff forests). APPLY FOR A PERMIT ONLINE
Due to a very long waiting list, we will not be taking any further applications for hunting permits until February 2018. We apologise for any inconvenience.
There are three hunting blocks in the Waipori Forest and one block in the Silverpeaks Forest. DOWNLOAD MAPS
The hunting blocks are available at weekends during daylight hours only and are closed during times of high fire risk and high winds, and at times when the forest is being used by other recreational users, e.g. car and trail bike rallies.
Hunting is by permit only. Permits are not issued as of right, but will be issued after a regular ballot from the applications submitted. Successful applicants will be notified by post.
MOTORCYCLE ACCESS PERMITS (Limit of two bikes per permit)
Approved permits are available in weekends only and are valid for three months. Motorcycle access application forms can be obtained from our Stafford Street office or from this website. APPLY FOR A PERMIT ONLINE
